The Future You Have, Tomorrow

Fri Dec 26, 2008, 2:21 AM
Won't be the same future you had, yesterday. - Buster Casey

It's been 6 months, guess I might as well make another entry.
One semester left, then I'm moving from the town I've lived in for as long as I can remember to Texas with Rory. Extremely anxious and scared ****less at the same time. No matter what though, it'll be worth it. Trying to keep myself informed enough to not screw it up, but in the dark enough to not know exactly what I'm getting into. Things are really expensive. No, really ****ing expensive. Apartment I'm looking at is 2 Bedroom, 2 bath and 800/mo, with 200 deposit. So that's $1800 immediately out of my pocket. Not to mention the gas it'll take to get there, and the upkeep to get my car running again, and the insurance on it. Then there's utilities, food, and home furnishings. Was planning on taking a U-Haul with a bed and couch and whatever else I could get, but that'd cost $1200, so I scratched that idea. Gonna get some stuff here: [link] , and then other stuff at Ikea probably. Found that site from a news post on Ctrl+alt+del, and he said it was amazing and hey, who doesn't like bean bag chairs? Finding a job when I get there is going to be a major pain, but once me and Rory find jobs we should be pretty much in the clear, since it's the initial cost that is most brutal. Being able to get a full time job will be a massive help, considering I'm making a measly $300/mo at my part time job. The pay is great actually, but I can only work so many hours when I have school. Well, luckily Rory is happy to also have an...'alternative' source of income, but I'll spare you the details. Would try to sell some of my stuff, but don't have much to sell. I'll probably only have $3300 or so when we leave, so I'm hoping Rory can have enough saved up by then to cover another month or two of rent. But hey, if worse comes to worse, Kidneys are worth about $30k, even more on the black market. Enough of that though, too bothersome to think about it too much.

Over Winter Break I'm gonna read some great literature and watch some great film. So far for the book line up I have Little Brother (Tech geek book in the spirit of 1984, which I've already finished. Great read, learned some cool tech stuff), Oral Biography of Buster Casey (Also known as Rant. Jason George lent it to me last year, but I never got around to reading it, which now I'm mad at myself for. Great book in the form of an oral biography, where a lot of different people give their accounts of a persons life, which is an amazing style), Fight Club (The book the movie is based on. If you haven't seen the movie, go rent it now. You won't regret it), Lullaby (About a string of seemingly random infant deaths which are caused by a lullaby in a popular book of stories for kids), and the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (about the religion of the pastafarians [link] ).

Little Brother is written by Cory Doctorow; Rant, Lullaby, and Fight Club are all by Chuck Palahniuk, my favorite author.

For movies I have...the original Star Wars Trilogy which I've yet to watch...please don't kill me. Also Sanjuro, Yojimbo, Madadayo, and Stray Dog Nora Inu, all by Akira Kurosawa. That's gonna be a lot of subtitles.

Well, that's about all my sleep deprived mind can churn out at the moment. If you actually read this, leave a comment, I might start posting more.
